Monash University Caulfield Campus

Buildings H & J

Equiset was contracted to design, project manage and construct a $95 million redevelopment at Monash University's Caulfield Campus. Known as Buildings H & J, the project includes an eleven level education building and an eight level car park.

To provide informed solutions that meet the University's needs, Equiset undertook a study of the campus, identifying various building envelopes, possible property acquisitions and an overall campus development plan. The result is an outstanding design that provides state of the art facilities for this internationally renowned university.

A critical part of the development strategy was to demonstrate to the university that their available land at the campus was too
valuable to continue with low rise building configurations. The building increased the University's usable floor area on the campus by 40%.

This innovative project drew on new technologies that delivered cost and time efficiencies and environmental advantages. The project was designed and documented in 3D using an integrated building model for architecture, structure and building services.

Features

  • A large central green 'common', which
links existing campus facilities with the
    new building and car park
  • Floor by floor plant rooms provide an effective solution for the higher population requirements of Class 9 buildings
  • Efficient and flexible floor plate that is easily divisible off the central core and readily adaptable due to the large 9m x 12m structural grid
  • High quality finishes and facilities
  • Equal access design

Statistics

  • 20,000m2 NLA
  • 762 car parking spaces
